Reservoir Node

PetroVR allows you to model two kinds of reservoirs: Oil reservoir oil reservoirs and Gas reservoir gas reservoirs. You can define the amount and composition of all three fluids (oil, gas, and water) for each, but in oil reservoirs oil will be regarded as the main fluid, with the other two as subsidiary, and in gas reservoirs it will be the other way around. In addition, a special type of Reservoir called CO2 Storage can be created, for the exclusive use of CO2 Injection.

Why define a Reservoir?

In PetroVR, all fluids produced during a project's life must issue from a reservoir, and this reservoir must have been defined in accordance to produce those fluids. Also, all wells must be associated to a reservoir, and their performance will be somehow determined by the reservoir's characteristics; and conversely the reservoir will have its reserves depleted by the operation of wells. In a way, reservoirs in PetroVR may be seen as containers of wells: wells associated to the same reservoir will share some specification traits (produced fluids, reserves limits, etc.) and may even impact each other's performance.

The choice between defining one or more reservoirs to model a single hydrocarbon accumulation, distinguishing layers and zones, depends on each project's needs and conveniences: the necessity to make a distinction in the fluids and their composition, and to establish the practical production limit for groups of wells will ultimately determine the number of reservoir in PetroVR.

The various reservoir data are entered in the following tabs:

  • Reserves Tab: Choose a calculation method for the recoverable oil / gas.
  • Details Tab (Reservoir): Specify the priority this reservoir has in the whole project and define an automatic development plan.
  • Fluids Tab: Define fluid quality and the overall oil-gas-water ratio.
  • Injection Tab: Define the producer / injector ratio.
  • Well Communication Tab: Choose whether and how well communication impacts performance.
  • Pressure Info Tab (only in Gas reservoir gas reservoirs): Enter pressure information to be used in defining the performance of gas producers.
  • Wells Tab: View and edit a list of wells associated to this reservoir.
  • Map Tab: View and edit the location of all wellheads, completions and facilities connected to them on the reservoir map.
